My son was moving in the wrong direction and I could see how he was changing. It started with small things - and we had always been able to talk openly so I talked to him about the changes. We talked about drugs, tobacco and alcohol and their dangers, we talked about sex and the downfalls and responsibilities of behaving older than your age - we talked about all the things you are supposed to talk about and yet things still continued downhill. I asked teachers, school counselors, therapists, family doctors, youth officers at the police department - please tell me what else I can do. I received no answers. I tried behavioral health programs, nutritionists, medication, self hypnosis, affirmations - I read book after book on teen problems and different ways of dealing with them - anything I could think of but he continued to slide downwards. I knew we were haading towards a time when I could no longer provide what he needed to stop his downward fall. That is when he was enrolled at the Program School. Through these programs I have seen the young man I once knew start to peek out. I have seen the person I always knew was still inside there even though I hadn't seen him in so long. And I have also found the person that I used to be, the person I hadn't even realized was lost, come back out into the sunshine again. I have seen entire families healed through these situations and it takes my breath away. There is hope - you are not alone, there are so, so many of us! No one has to be lost!
